Lewesdon Hill

Lewesdon Hill

This painting was started on a wet morning that had turned the road blue. The skies were brooding and purple and when not swallowing up Lewesden Hill entirely, they were flying in their characteristic bands that look as though directed by the up currents swooping up from the back of the Hill.

I love the beginnings of Spring with the first blast of strong colour after the gentler colours of muted winter – that triumphant yellow that starts to peep through catching the sun and giving the trees an earthly halo.

I simply can’t live without this painting
