St Michael’s Trading Estate is a rambling ramshackle medley full of intriguing places to spend hours sifting through treasures including the Artist Studios, Antique shops and of course The Red Brick – a back street Cafe in the beating heart of the Art and Vintage Quarter. You can have a seriously wholesome meal for very little in this tiny colourful cafe. The interior is a feast for the eyes, and even if it wasn’t just next door, the place would still draw artists.
The preparation and celebration of food in this painting is part of the theme of this exhibition. The intrigue my parents installed in me with stories of expectant taste combinations and explosive experiences. Of gathering fruit from the hedgerows and trees, or going into old homes to negotiate a box of eggs.
