The Bull and the Beer, Piltdown

The Bull and the Beer, Piltdown

Old rural stories of sacred fires lit in the spring inspire this piece. Cattle were driven between them on their way out to the fields for the first time in the year. As they made their way through the smoke towers of the sacred fires, it was said, they were given a blessing to protect them throughout the year. The embers of all the houses were then doused and relit for the year ahead with embers from the sacred fires. The spring bull and the fires of the homestead are good, solid fertility symbols.

Sorry this painting has gone. I can have A5 greetings cards of this painting here.
